GSA Schedule question

My company registered in CCR a few years ago, without doing any marketing to the gov't, and of course without any new work from it. Now looking into getting a GSA schedule. It seems like a LOT of red tape.

Has anyone here been through the process? If so, could you tell us about it? Is it worth all the effort for a small engineering company?

Alternatively, has anyone here subcontracted through another GSA schedule holder, and if so, how was it?

From the government side, it is a whole lot easier to get to you for a contract once you are under GSA schedule. It saves a lot of money on a project basis, and especially saves a lot of time.

If on GSA schedule, when an order is being placed, and set asides otherwise satisfied, solicitation will go out to the GSA schedule holders. I'd recommend, if you haven't already done so, is monitor the FedBizOps to see if current and forecast solicitations match with the type of work your company is interested in doing. If a small business, it may be of benefit to consider registering as a small business or 8a firm. Your local SBA would be the best source to discuss this with.
