I have just been given the remit to redesign an acre of horticultural glass-houses in the south of England. The plan is to construct the glass-houses with all the south facing roof-elevations with Photo-Voltaic panels (PV). The electricity produced is to go into the national-grid. This should help pay for the loss making side of the business - growing plants.

Will it be possible to grow plants under PV. There is light passing through the PV (not sure how much yet) and there will be North facing roof glass and all elevation are glass. The present user of the site sprays the existing glass with chalk on a regular basis, presumably to diffuse the light.

I could leave gaps between the PV (say 100-mm, 4") to allow light through which could be diffused by prism reflectors (or similar - florescent-light covers?) to give a balanced spread of light.

I am open to all advice.
