Grouting under neath Clean Out Door

Good morning Tank Builders,

On Crude Oil we have Clean Out Door. Underneath this clean out door there is a gap about 40 - 50 mm and 1500 width.

Do you have a procedure to grout this gap ?

I think there must be a shim plate as well.

No shim plate required. Any non-shrink grout is acceptable. google "5-Star grout" for the specifications, it is the same stuff used to set pumps and equipment sole plates with. I would not use the epoxy version of non-shrink in oil service, just the cementious stuff, like 5-Star. Strength is higher than the cement in your tank's ringwall, so just ensure that the grouted area goes back the full width of the ringwall. And with the cementious, all you do is add water.

Less probability than for your ringwall; thyat structural concrete probably is between 3500psi and 6000psi. Equipment grout runs about 8500 psi compressive strength. And being non-shrink, you do not get the curing cracks that concrete always has.

Who cares if it cracks? The issue is supporting the thickened plate and properly supporting the tank shell in that area. A few cracks won't matter as long as it is "there".
