I'm trying to create an assembly that requires a pin to follow a groove swept into a cylinder. The cylinder only rotates back and forth300 degrees. I've tried a "Cam" mate, but SolidWorks doesn't like it. Something about the selected surfaces don't create a contiuous or closed cam extruded from a single profile.'

Can someone tell me how to mate this?

Thanks,

Steve.

I'm not sure how to define the mate you are looking for, but for a quick motion analysis, you can clickMove Component
tool_Move_Component_Assembly.gif
on the assembly toolbar. Under options click Collision Detection, click These Components, then clickthe pinand cylinder. Click Resume Drag. Leave "stop at collision" unchecked.

It's not an assembly definition, but it should give you the motion you want. It's also resource hungry, so don't be surprised if your machine hangs or the motion is jumpy.
