Could anyone please tell me the best way to design a gravel roadway? I've done numerous flexible and rigid pavement designs, but have never done a gravel topped roadway. The roadway will support cars, small trucks, and light industrial equipment/machinery.

Thanks.

I'm assuming you are speaking about a rural cros section. What length and what kind of borrow material do you have? How much brushing/stripping is there? What kind of drainage volumes do you require? What kind of cross section are you looking for? How wide do you want your top to be (7 m, 8 m, 10 m, etc.)? What do the local regs specify for the backslope and sideslope? How much grade do you have to build?

Finally, how often is the road to be maintained and re-gravelled? Is dust suppresion/stabilization a future consideration? Give me a call if you want some specifics, once you have considered the items above, (780)573-1884. I can then point you in a direction.
