What is the definition of girth flange in the context of shell and tube heat exchanger? I tried finding a concrete definition in books/ASME BPVC Sec VIII Div 1/ TEMA standard but I'm unable to find. Any help is appreciated. Further, can a girth flange be bolted to channel cover?

Sam Smith, girth flange(s) join main sections of the HX, channel to shell or tubesheet, shell to shell cover, floating head cover to tubesheet, and yes, channel to channel cover. Also called body flanges. As distinct from flanges connecting piping, etc.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand
