Getting filename from another application

I have a question concerning on working with other application in Visual Basic. I will be very appreciated if I could have your opinion on the following case:

Etabs2000 does not have ability to write a program on it. So you have to write it in another language. I have written the whole program in VB but now I want to get the filename and it’s directory of the active file from ETABS2000 when it is active. Hove can I get the name and directory of a file that is currently active in Etabs2000 in VB?
