I am looking at a "conceptual" layout for a gas turbine generator installation. The unit is for 13MW ( 395,000 lbs )the generator and gas turbine will be field coupled ( not a single skid installation). I am looking for some general GUIDELINES on foundation sizing for this type of equipment. Persons involved with the project indicate that the weight is the issue. I do recall from another project that rotating machines exert other forces in a foundation in addition to the weight ( in particular during contingencies- electrical short circuit- ).

Some help please

The rotation of the turbine will affect the foundation. Check with the supplier and get the following information, if you can:

expected peak particle velocity
expected peak displacement
multiple phase vibration frequency based on turbine rpm and multiples thereof

The foundation and underlying soils must then be checked for capability to withstand these values and the dead weight of the system.
