Which is more economical in welding steel from a gas consumption standpoint--TIG or oxy-acetylene? The product is semi custom pieces made of low carbon steel, 3/16" thick. Welds are fillet welds, and since they show, they need to look nice.

GTAW will be faster, more visually consistent, and a tank of argon is going to be more cost efficient than a tank each of oxygen and acetylene.

I agree with Mr168. In OH I am paying roughly $10 for a cylinder of oxygen, $50 for acetylene, but $20 for argon.
