I use the interference detection feature for assembly interference checks. How to get the shortest distance (minumum gap) between two parts in an assembly ? Thanks.

Corb,
I think I did not ask the question right. I use measure tool to measure the gap, but what i am looking here is the option to check the shortest distance between two parts in an assembly, in which I don;t know where the shortest distance occurs. I can do it in SDRC-IDEAS it shows by a line the location and measurement value, I am sure SW has it, I just don't know where it is. Thanks.

Corb, I will double check whether tools-measure gives the shortest distance of two parts and not just surfaces or edges.

Hi, Sripri:

When you use "Measure" command in SW, it always reports to you "Minimum" distance between two entities you selected.

1) If you select two vertexes, it will show you minimum distance between the two vertexes you selected.
2) If you select two edges, it will show you minimum distance between the two edges.
3) If you select two faces, it will show you minimum distance between the two faces.
4) If you select two bodies within a part, it will show you minimum distance between the two bodies.
5) If you select two parts in an assembly, it will show you minimum distance betwen the two parts.
6) If you select any two entities (vertex, edge, face, body, part, or sub-assembly, etc, it will show you minimum distance between the two entities.

Distance is minimum (or shortest) by definition.

Hi, Sripri:

You can also use "Move" command to check shortest distance between two parts if one of them is free to move. Just click "Dynamic Clearance" option and select the two parts, and resume to move free part, "Move" command will show the shortest distance you are looking for.

Good Luck!

Yes. It works and meets my requirement. Thanks.
