Do you need a barrier (protective coating)when galvannealed sheet steel is mounted to aluminum? I would think no, but wanted to confirm. Thank you!

Atmospheric conditions?
Relative sizes?

It is vehicle application - so normal road wear and conditions. Sizes vary -- mainly brackets (3-5" mating size).

"vehicle application" covers a wide variety of conditions. Is this somewhere that road salt/slush will be splashing on? Will it drain cleanly, or will water collect? Is it inside the passenger compartment? Behind the dash?

Aluminum should only slightly accelerate corrosion of the galvanneal under most conditions. Salt and high time-of-wetness are the major concerns.
