Frozen Subgrade 2

Does anyone have any experience with frost in a recently lime stabilized soil. We require proof-rooling of the raod subgrade and frost entered the soil soon after compaction.
The frost appears to have has hardened the soil and we believe the proof-rolling will not be indicative of the true soil properties. Thanks

You will have to wait until it thaws. In Chicago, we once lime stabilized a clay in Nov when it was freezing and had to wait until the Spring to proof roll it (it held up great).

You're both right-proofroll won't detect frost and we will have to wait until spring. Most times the stabilized road subgrade puffs up about 1" for every 18" lime-stabilized thickness. Often, the contractor grades an inch low, so that the modified subgrade is at proposed elevation and doesn't require much fine tuning.
