Greetings,
Please refer me to any research or technical literature (e.g. journal or conference articles, vendor data, etc.) that was used in developing ASME PCC-2 Article 3.2.
I am trying to gain a better understanding of items such as, "freeze plugs formed under higher pressure are stronger. If practical, the freeze plug should be formed at the highest pressure to be encountered during the operation."
Questions I am trying to resolve are:
Does the "strength" gained during high pressure plug formation degrade if the system pressure is reduced afterward? If it does not, then one could form a stronger plug at high pressure and then reduce the pressure for intrusive work (where the freeze plug is used as isolation) and have a "strength margin."
I will be called upon to evaluate when freeze plugs are appropriate and I am trying to develop an understanding of the technical considerations.
