Understanding NPSH: How One Wrong Calculation Could be Impacting Your Operation
Event Date: 06/24/2014 11:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time

Although net positive suction head (NPSH) is a vital part of the pump selection process, it is often overlooked and misunderstood when assessing total life-cycle costs. In this webinar, pump industry experts from ITT Goulds Pumps will discuss a new Hydraulic Institute (HI) standard for NPSH margin, and explain how to estimate NPSH margins for various pump services. An understanding of these topics will help attendees avoid unnecessary system noise and vibration, maximize seal and bearing life, and minimize impeller damage and replacement.

Insufficient NPSH margin can lead to excessive cavitation, causing major damage to your pumping system. Learn how correctly setting NPSH margin can extend the life of your pump and improve the reliability and productivity of your plant.

Webcast attendees will come away with a better understanding of the new HI standard for NPSH margin ANSI/HI 9.6.1(2012) and how it can be applied. During this informative session, product and application specialists from ITT Goulds Pumps will review the basic physics and calculations behind net positive suction head and will discuss the consequences of not properly accounting for NPSH when selecting a pump.

Attendees will learn:
• The basic physics of NPSH and cavitation
• The parameters of the new Hydraulic Institute standard for NPSH margin ANSI/HI 9.6.1 (2012)
• Why subscripts matter: NPSHA, NPSHR, NPSH3 and what they all mean
• How to calculate NPSHA
• The appropriate NPSH margin for different types of pump services
• What NPSH factors need to be considered when selecting a pump
• The consequences of not properly calculating NPSH margin
• How NPSH fits into life-cycle costing

This webcast will empower attendees with a comprehensive understanding of net positive suction head and how it can be managed to improve pump system reliability and efficiency.
