four bar linkage

Hello,

Any ideas on a linkage to move a plate in horizontally (approx 6 ft) , stop, then raise vertically (approx 1 ft) I would like to have one drive (linear actuator, etc) for both motions
Maybe some four bar linkage? I cannot figure out a simple design.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I drew this sketch (see attachment) while watching the super bowl. NE is ahead so far.
If you think this sketch may suit your taste, do a paper cutout of all the parts and use tacks as pins and turn it by hand to test it.

Three discreet positions define a 4-bar linkage. If you know three desired positions, the linkage defines itself.

Look up "relative pole" methods for 4-bar design.
 
Who suggested to you that you use a 4-bar linkage to perform two simple linear motions? Did they ask you to see how complicated you could make this operation? Why not two simple motions and systems which performed the two functions you ask for? Complicated design is generally not better design or less expensive design, and the only people it impresses are those who don’t know any better. What about simple design, operation, adjustability, and maintenance, they rule in the real world of an operating plant. I wonder what would happen if you described your problem and what you were actually trying to do, step by step; size and weight of plate, does the pl. size or travel ever have to change. Where does the plate come from and go to after the 1' lift? And then asked the question, what would be some simple ways to do this?
