I have a formula to calculate the weight for steel coils but it doesnt work for me. can someone tell me a place to find the formula because I might have it wrong?

Do you mean a helical steel spring? If so, I suggest you check out this site,

which has formulae for length and mass of helical springs.

If you are refering to coils feeding various manufacturing processes, you might try one of the manufacturers of feeding equipment. Coe come to mind. They have a quick calculator that I've used occasionally.
