Flume sand?

I am working on a project in Indianapolis where the contractor wants to use flume sand as engineered fill. I am not sure of the gradation. We will be doing a sieve analysis on the material. Are there any specific issues with using this type of material beyond normal grain size issues? They plan on using it for winter construction, so there will most likely be cold/wet conditions.
