what are the advantages and disadvantages of finger discs when compared to oil rings?
i know that oil rings can hang up or skip.

Heinz Bloch wrote a paper discussing this. You hit it on the nose about the problem with oil rings. The problem shows up when the D*N gets to large. As I recall Heinz Bloch recommended oil rings should not be used above around D*N = 8000 rpm*inch. (I forget whether that's inner diameter or mean diameter)

The paper that I was referring to is here:

thanks electricpete, i read this article some years ago. strangely enough, 90% of the pumps i have seen with oil rings exceed the D*N limit.
anyways, the article had no mention about disadvantages of finger discs and i never heard of anyone having bad experinece with them. so, i was just wondering if there are disadvantage and what are they?
