My company, a Norwegian aluminium producer, is currently developing some new equipment for aluminium casting. We are using a flexible, fiber ceramic material for heat insulation. One of our challenges has been to stop penetration of the insulating ceramic from the casting oil wich we have to use. We have tried some of the available coatings, but there seem to be a problem to combine flexibility and heat resistance.
The coating would have to cope with these conditions:

- In contact with liquid aluminium
- Non-wetting in contact with aluminium
- Maximum temperature of 700°C
- Not penetratable of oil (even at high temperatures)

Of course, if some of you know about a ceramic material that will fill these needs without coatin, that would be even better!
Best regards,
