For large area industrial buildings in NBC Class F, Div. 1, 2 or 3, the required fire-resistance rating for floor assemblies is generally 2 hours.

Many of our competitors and the industry in general seem to neglect this requirement, as typical floor assemblies consist of an 8"-12" slab sitting on an unsprayed deck and painted steel, which in my opinion does not meet the 2 hr resistance rating.

How are others tackling this requirement in large industrial buildings?

Are you providing intumescent paint or SFRM to the steel?

I see SFRM here in the US, when it's required for protecting supporting structural members based on Table 601 of the IBC.

What kind of industrial building and what kind of floors? We are generally not calling floor levels floors where they are for maintenance only. If the floors are occupied by workers they should be fire separations though, and maybe you should message the AHJ.

Pulp mills.
The floors are generally for maintenance, sometimes there are offices.
