Fire Extinguisher hung inside Wall Cabinets/Boxs 1

I have searched around and can not find any information on regulations for or against hanging fire extinguishers inside of a fire extinguisher wall cabinet.

I have a few different types.

The ones that have a twist handle and the door is opened to access the F/E is not so much an issue.

The ones that have the plastic/glass breakaway seem to me to create an issue. Once the breakaway is well...broken away the opening is large enough to grab the F/E which is sitting freely in the box. The ones that are mounted on a bracket inside the box seem to create a bit more effort to pull out.

I would like to be able to present something definitive to my supervisor who seems to have a pet-pieve on hanging these things or drop the issue all together.

So does your supervisor want the cabinets???

And if so which one???

I'm interested if there is a specific standard reference for this myself. Every cabinet we have ever provided we just rest the extinguisher on the bottom of the cabinet. The vast majority of existing cabinets I've seen do the same, but a small percentage have had the extinguishers hanging on hooks inside the cabinet.

.....looking in NFPA 10 (2010) it says the following:

6.1.3.4* Portable fire extinguishers other than wheeled extinguishers shall be installed using any of the following means:

(1) Securely on a hanger intended for the extinguisher
(2) In the bracket supplied by the extinguisher manufacturer
(3) In a listed bracket approved for such purpose
(4) In cabinets or wall recesses


Based on that I would interpret that they don't need to have a hook when inside a cabinet.

The use of steel cabinets is to deter vandalism or malicious mischief to the portable fire extinguishers. These steel cabinets would have a breakable glass front. An attached rod or similar tool with a chain would be fastened to the cabinets.
