Using BS5950-1:2000 I've designed a lifting lug (50mm x 20mm Cross Sectional Area)and checked the welding using a 6mm fillet weld in accordance with section 6.8 Design of Fillet welds (6.8.7.3 Directional method) but it all seems too easy, am I missing something?

The force through the lug is at 45 degrees and the force applied is 3501.655N. Using a factor of safety of 2 and doing the check I found 0.471<=1 which is acceptable according to the code (FL/PL)^2 + (FT/PT)^2 <=1.

I've never seen a safety factor of 2 on anything tha pertains to lifting, at least not in the USA.
