A question on file formats. Is NX5 able to export or import .3dx files? A colleague I work with asked me and I didn’t think you could if not is NX7.5 able to do so?

Thanks!

Files with a .3dx extension are from Rhino CAD and there is NO 'direct' translator available as an NX plug-in or module. However, I cannot believe that Rhino CAD is unable to export files in at least .dxf or .dwg format, both of which can be opened directly into NX (with the proper translator module installed). If you're only interested in the solid models ask them to give you Parasolid files.

Thanks John!
I believe they were looking at some software that used 3dx files and were asking if NX was capable of exporting in that format. Like you say I'll bet the software they are looking at will use parasolid files as well.
Thanks again.

Rhino can export parasolid but it's a surface modelling program, so it doesn't matter if they output parasolid, or iges, the result when imported into NX, will be exactly the same
