FEA of Forged Part

I have been lurking for years but finally have a question worth asking. The company I now work at has designed an automotive steering upright based on an OEM design with a drop for lowering. I have been given the task to FEA it before they destructive test the final design. Now the upright is Forged 1045 Steel. The question is what material do I use for COSMOS as there are no options for a forged steel. I understand that forging changes grain structure which would affect strength. Can I just adjust properties or do I need a different software package or do I just use C1045 Cold Drawn and realize my design will be better than the results.

Why don't you enter your own material properties? Use the same properties as you would if you were going to analyze the part by hand (you should do some hand calcs anyway to sanity check your model).
 
You need to get your lab to measure the material properties from a similar part made from the same material in the same way, in the high stress areas.

Then create a custom material property, if COSMOS can do that, or scale your results.

Oh, and as I understand it you may have difficulty setting up appropriate boundary conditions with the entry level of COSMOS, and the test result will be non linear, which again may not be supported by the version of COSMOS that you have.
