Hi I'm trying to assign composite material to my component (car front bumper which is not just flat surface) which has material coordinate not align with global coordinate system (when u see in abq viewer). I'm using
*material, type=engineering constants
I need my fiber direction (E1) align with material X coordinate. z normal to the surface.

How do I use transformation or orientation
Please advise ASAP

I have hypermesh as a preprocessor

Thanks in advance
Bipin

Hmmm...I'm not familiar with Abaqus, but since you are still aligning with a global axis, you should be able to properly input the physical properties so that the analytical work. However, there should also be a method for orienting the laminate to the global coordinate system.

Your elements will have a default primary direction and a default normal. Figure out these directions and you should be able to reorient them appropriate. Most FEA packages project a vector onto a surface, so if your element is not in, say, the X-Y plane, you may still be able to orient the laminate with an x-vector (1,0,0) and have it work for the entire bumper.
