There is a type of heat exchanger, patented in 1985, where (on one side at least) the fluid falls down the surface in a film under the action of gravity. ie that side of the heat exchanger is not full of fluid.

Does anyone know of examples of this principle in prior art?

Thanks in anticipation,

M Rutherford
