In calculating the safe design of a stop for a vertical hoist in case of hoist line failure Is there a simple formula that can be used to calculate the force applied due to the impact loading on the stops?
The only formula I can find works by relating static deflection to deflection caused by impact. In this case the restrainng force is due to a friction force caused by tightening the bolts on the stop and the shear strength of the bolts themselves not by the extension of a supporting member.
