Would anyone offer some suggestions to the grade of carbon steel to
use on a shaftless auger system. I tried using A36 1/2" x 2" flat bar
in a 10" OD coil. Problem was to much heat 1500F and it twisted up.
Was thinking about trying A514. The next killer is a slow rpm 1/2 to 1 rpm
pushing about 300 lbs of material (tire shred) through a 12" dia duct 15' long.
Any solid ideas would sure be appreciated.

Operating at 1500degF presents a difficult problem for any carbon steel. I can't imagine the rubber content of the tire shred causing a problem at 1500degF. Are the loads on the auger more due to the steel/fabric reinforcements in the tire feed stock?

1500 F puts the steel in the austenitic range where the steel has very low strength. If you contact Technovations International Inc at technominervaatgmail.com, they may help you with selecting a high temperature metal.

Thank you Gentlemen,
Moving on to stainless.
