F4X qualifications

Hi,

We have a welder with following qualifications:

Process - SMAW
Filler Metal - F4X
Material - P1-P11 & P4X

Is he able to weld using Arctec 661T and Tungcote E?

I think he might be good for Tungcote E but I am not sure about 661T.

These are hardfacing filler metals with no assigned F-No classification, the welder can weld using either filler metal. Do you have a WPS qualified for this project?
 
F4X refers to filler metals with a F number of 41, 42, 43, etc. The letter "X" is a place holder representing any digit. F4X refers to any number of nickel based alloys grouped as a F41, F42, F43, etc.

F numbers can be found in ASME Section IX as well as AWS B2.1

Not if the Trade designations stated are not within the permitted P-Nos. Review Qw-403.18 or as further modified under QW-423.1 and QW-423.2.
 
As is typical, the OP mentions nothing regarding the use of filler metals. Just because ASME Section IX is referenced for welder certification says nothing about welding outside of ASME B&PV Code. For all we know, he is using an ASME qualified welder to apply hardfacing on garbage cans.

I originally thought base metals. The OP needs to provide greater clarification. Was the welder qualified for a Hard Surfacing, Corrosion Resistant Overlay, groove weld or other? Furtermore, it is doubtful that the weld filler metals proposed meet the F4X criteria in Table QW-432, in which case, the welder is not qualified to do so.
