extracting subassemblies from main assembly

Is it possible to extract a selection of subassemblies from a main assembly?

For example, Main assembly consists of 54 subassemblies and >500 parts. Colleague wants to evaluate adding a part and its interaction between 4 subassemblies. Instead of transferring the main assembly, is there a command for exporting those 4 subassemblies into a smaller manageable assembly file?

I tried making a new subassembly from those four, but that option is not available ( in the right mouse click menu).

*Update*

Work-around: Copy main assembly file. Dissolve subassemblies as needed. Form new subassembly from the desired subassemblies. Save new subassembly externally.

Con: will lose patterned features and mates. also, for large main assemblies creating a copy (as well as dissolving subassemblies) can be a struggle for low performing workstations.

Why not use a simplified rep?

Thanks. Forgot about that feature. Will try it next time.
