Extracting object attributes

Hi,

I am struggling with extracting object attributes from parts under assemblies and keeping them in table.
Example, I have to extract the material from sub level part and keep it a table in drafting mode. I trying to record the journal using edit text--> relations---> object attributes. It not recording these steps. Could anyone please help me out creating a journal through which I can extract the links from object attributes.
