We are using SolidWorks 2001 and we need to export a high-resolution image of the unrendered model as we see it on screen, is this possible?

Not exactly exporting but it may meet your needs:

Shift-PrintScreen to do a screen capture and then paste the captured image into Paint or something. Edit it as needed and then save as a .JPG Do it in Photoshop and you can save it as a PDF.

Yeah, that is what we have been doing, but sometimes the images we need are so much larger than the size of the screen. This means we have to do loads of grabs and piece them back together in photoshop.

Surely there has to be a way of exporting an unrendered image???

Couldn't SW01 Save as jpg and tif formats?
Also you could use pdf995 from
Either way, for best results, set your screen resolution to as high as possible before creating the screen capture or pdf.

Go to the Solidworks Tools website and download a macro called "save quality bitmap" (mm_18.zip) at
It has an easy-to-use dialog box, and if you scrounge around on that site, you might find something else you like.

What Image software do you use? If you are using MS paint then you need something better then that. I suggest Paint shop pro do scale your images up in size from the screen shots. I'm not sure but I don't think SW01+ did save as Jpg file and even if it did it wouldn't be any bigger then the screen shot. So you will have to scale it. That's why getting good image software is important.

No, it's not really possible. You're stuck at 72 or 96dpi with what's on your screen. If you want lots of pixels, you'll need to render your image. (What's wrong with rendering it? It would be much faster than piecing screen shots together, plus you could render in perspective--something that won't work by piecing together screen shots.)
