I have asked my colleague to 3D print an object I have modeled in NX 9.0. He tells me to give him a pure OBJ file and he will do it. I cannot figure out how to export/convert my NX .prt file into an OBJ file. I thought an obj file was what came out of a compiler. Obviously not! Does anyone know how to get an OBJ file out of NX?

I did a search in this forum on this topic, and based what I found you cannot export a OBJ from NX.

Thanks Jerry1423! I could not find anything in the forums either. So now I am wondering what can I export that the 3D printer will be able to accept. Or if I export a step can I convert to OBJ. From what I can tell OBJ's are more from the artsy-fartsy side of modeling. Any other ideas?

The rapid prototype machines that I deal with all take .STL files as input. STL files are fairly easy to export from NX.

Thanks cowski! Yes, I asked him if he would take an STL file and he said sure. AGGGH! I think he usually works with the artsy-fartsy types. So I have sent him an STL and we will see how it turns out! Thanks for every bodies help!

I am sure it will turn out fine; I am also sure that there are at least a couple more file formats that he is able to accept but probably doesn't realize it.
