Export from ETABS 1

Dear All

When the safe model exported from ETABS, the primary load cases will be taken automatically to safe program. But it doesn't do that for response spectrum cases. How do we handle this.

as far as i know, the only solution is to incorporate equivalent seismic load cases into ETABS analysis just to export their effects to SAFE model.

Dear Murali,
Exactly, you have to define quake STATIC load cases to ETABS specifying the equivalent seismic loads to be applied on the structure.
It is your choice how you will specify these STATIC loads -either according to your seismic code regulations for ELF or to match the responce spectrum forces (that is a more tedious approach).
Finally, use these STATIC load cases and their combinations to export to SAFE.

I have heard that there is another trick to solve the problem which I’ll be trying in the near future.

That is: run a static quake and the required spectrum analysis in the same Etabs model. The different output formats for both results will be seen in exportable Safe.f2k text file. Extract the spectrum analysis results from Safe.f2k text file, change and match its format to the format produced by ETABS for static quake analysis (carefully eliminated excess data) and re-incorporate it into the SAFE .f2k file after eliminating the static quake results from that file. Import the modified f2k file to SAFE and run it.

I understand that the changing and matching format process is tedious but can be expedited using Excel.

I’ll like to know from both of you your comments and recommendations with this trick.
