Hello,

I am attempting to simulate water flow over a cylindrical body (pipeline) for the evaluation of vortex induced vibration magnitude and frequency. Any feedback is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have successfully ran some simulations and am still experimenting, however I seek clarification regarding modelling of contact properties.

Presently I have two contacts created:
- Int-1 is a General Contact (Explicit) with no properties specified. This was simply to initialise all the instances to ensure theyre connected. The intention here is to ensure the interaction between the water medium and pipeline + seabed is captured.
- Int-2 is a Surface-Surface Contact (Explicit) between seabed and pipeline with Tangential, Normal and Damping properties specified under interaction properties.

I am presented with the following errors:
A shell surface with shell offsets has either rigid elements or deformable elements made rigid. Rigid surfaces with shell offsets cannot be used with contact pairs. The shell offsets will not be enforced within the contact domain. Please use general contact instead.

FOR SURFACE INTERACTION INTPROP-2, *CONTACT DAMPING IS NOT ACTIVE FOR CONTACT MOTIONS TANGENTIAL TO THE SURFACES SINCE HARD KINEMATIC CONTACT IS SPECIFIED IN THE TANGENTIAL DIRECTION.

Any feedback is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

General contact should be sufficient. If you want to make individual contact property specifications (e.g. for friction), you can do it from within general contact as well. Just select the surfaces and interaction property to assign to them.
