Equipment built per PD5500 in the UK but equipment installed in the United States 1

If a piece of equipment is built in the UK per PD5500 but will be installed in a plant in the US does the equipment also have to be built/stamped per ASME Section VIII?
 
I think you'd have to check with the customer and with the jurisdiction (generally, the state) to confirm their requirements.
Also, for "equipment", check that it's not one of the items exempted from Section VIII.
 
In many states of the US, ASME VIII is law.
But not all.
 
In some places where ASME is law, allowance has been made for non ASME code stamped vessels. You will need to make application to the chief boiler inspector and provide PE Stamped calculations showing the equipment meets the ASME Boiler code. For new equipment is is usually much less costly to have the vessel stamped when built.
I concur with JStephen, the jurisdiction regulations that invoke the ASME BPVC usually have exemptions which need to be understood.
