equipment and labor cost escalation

Need suggestions on equipment and installation escalation for 1/2006 to 6/2008 , are there any public forums to get data ?

Good luck getting something even approximately accurate, beyond simply using the CPI off the back of Chemical Engineering magazine...

Materials costs have been extremely variable over the past few years. And labour cost is entirely regional.

CEPCI for Jan 2007 preliminary was 509.8
CEPCI for Jan 2008 preliminary was 530.7

Your best bet would be to contact local fabricators and construction groups in the area to have them provide some rough costs and escalation factors. Most are very helpful and will share info when it is available.

Steel pricing is unpredictable, in Aus we have just had another 30% increase. It makes the escalation estimation look silly when there are predicted increases of that order!

Just about all of the base metals went through conniptions in the past three years. 30% is nothing- but then again, I remember days not that long gone when steel was so steady in price (and so cheap) that there was no need to get quotes.

For the past several years, our vendors have been quoting 7 day validities for anything with a significant materials content.

So you can use the CPI crap on the back of Chem Eng magazine if you want, but take it with an appropriate measure of salt. I suggest that you'll be looking in the garden shed rather than the cutlery drawer for the correct measure...
