Epanet --Pumping into tanks

i am a new user to epanet, I am trying to connect small rural water schemes with a central treatment plant (about 10km of new piping). There is elevation differntials of about 200m so lots of pumping and pressure reduction, normally we would model pumps with a reservoir at an elevation required, however i want to try to use the program properly and analyse the network for age and clorine concentration eventually. For now all i need is minimum pipe sizes, ????????????when the whole network is joined up the flow in pipes entering tanks is way in excess of the flow out of the tank, why and what is going on, and what can i do to model it correctly.

What is happening in the real world? Are the pumps cycling? or do they have pressure control valve just downstream of the pump? with cycling pumps, you set up a time based solution with control logic on the pump operation. If you have a PRV, place a short pipe between the pump and valve, (sometimes with 2 active componets next to each other you may get unstable results)
