EOT for turbocompressor

Hello everyone

in our project specification, we specify that the EOT (overhead crane) will cover the full area of the shelter where the turbocompressor package is installed (gas turbine+ centrifugal compressor). the contractor said that we don't need the EOT to cover the turbine Area because the vendor of the turbines(" SIEMENS or SOLAR)will come with its own crane to do the maintenance required "ex: removal of GG". so the EOT crane will be limited only to the centrifugal compressor area.
my concern if there is any maintenance actions that requires the use of EOT in the turbine area.

what are your suggestions?

I would imagine that if a permanent crane of sufficient capacity is available then the turbine manufacturer contractor will not require use of their own crane and therefore the owner or O&M contractor will save money at each outage whereas the construction contractor will save themselves money by supplying a less capable crane. If you're the owner or the owner's engineer then you get to tell the construction contractor what to build.

Ultimately this should come down to a cost analysis. Is the permanent crane expected to have enough coverage AND enough overrun to actually remove the equipment (i.e. you have to provide a landing area under the crane to set the equipment on its prime mover, else you'll still need another crane for that purpose) or is it for maintenance ops only?

What's the frequency of maintenance ops that require major lifts?

Is the up-front cost of extending the crane and/or increasing its capacity, plus the increased maintenance cost of a larger crane, cheaper than the crane rental plus upcharge you'd pay to the maintenance contractor?

What is the likelihood that you extend the crane and agree on its capacity, only to find later that because of equipment changes or upgrades, the crane you extended and uprated is still not capable of performing all required lifts?? This last one sounds our there, but I've seen it happen more than once.

Thx for ur replies. The issue is not about extending the capacity. What I am concern about is only the range of the crane. The contractor says that all the component of the gas turbine that needs maintenance will be lifted by using the associated crane (from the side) that comes with the turbine,use a mobile troley to acheive the compressor area (the EOT range )and then lift the component that needs maintenance. My question is if there is any component of the gas turbine that needs maintenance that require to extend the range of the EOT.
For example in siemens sgt 100, there is a lube oil cooler, maintenance of inlet air filters, oil dimister...ect that needs the use if an external EOT.
Is it the same with sgt 300 or Taurus 70& 60?

If specific information on maintenance procedures is what you require, you're going to have much better luck asking the manufacturer of your turbo machinery.

Have you talked to the Siemens district representative?

Covered (inside building) or open-air installation?
The Siemens turbine will need a crane for outages, and that rental expense for the outage cranes IS substantial. Minor work could be done with the bridge crane - should be if you don't want to be taking the roof off! Not all maintenance requires a full outage - inspections and servicing for work between outages (when you pull the compressor or turbine cover off, pull the rotor, ect) should be (can be) planned for with the plant crane.

Outdoor unit? Yes, sometimes 3 cranes are rented to support Siemens outages. But those outside cranes require you remove the roof.
