Hello,

I am currently assisting with designing a large radiator for a diesel engine for >45°c ambient operation.

Could someone please assist me in calculating the ambient clearance of the radiator using a set of test data (coolant temps, BP etc) as I cannot find anything on the net at all!!

Many many thanks in advance!

Andy

Andyb86,

Normally the radiator performance requirements are specified the the engine manufacturer. Typically, they would specify a coolant volume flow based on the jacket water pump, and one or more temperatures. Those temperatures are typically on the order of 82 C in and 77 C out (this is typical for Caterpillar engines), but may vary depending on your engine manufacturer.

The engine manufacturer may also specify a jacket water cooling load.
