Hi,

I found this forum and looks like experience the same problem as in thread71-157210

The last msg from AllorNothing ends and I wanted to know was it ever resolved ?

(ford big block 460)

anyone ?

thanks
Rob

I don't know if it ever got resolved, but I just re-read the thread, and toward the end, the OP reveals that the fan is 2" bigger in diameter than the radiator shroud, and running in a plane 3/8" behind the shroud.

... whereas one would expect the fan to be running within the shroud, not behind it,

and the persistent symptoms reported suggest insufficient or marginal airflow at idle, duh.

[ponder] That seems a bit tight, considering the compliance of the engine mounts!
No problem I guess... I suppose the fan will simply machine away the required clearance... [wink]

The 429/460 was well known for overheating issues at idle in police car service. A hand throttle was a common option to allow a slight increase in RPM for situations requiring more than a few minutes of stationary operation.
