Does anyone know how the nozzles on spray painting equipment atomize the paint? I understand that the paint is pressurised and then passed through a spinning nozzle. But what pressure is used and what mechanism charges and then atomizes the paint?

Some (most) use air as the vehicle to both atomize and transport. Do an internet search on atomizing nozzles. Consider the electrostatic side of things. There must not be an electrical path from electrode to ground, meaning that the liquid path cannot be continuous (conductive). It's only when the fluid stream is discontinuous (atomized within air vehicle) is when it's charged.
