I’d be interested to hear the views of others on possible electro chemical corrosion between Ex brass cable glands / copper sealing washers & Ex aluminium enclosures. Both Pirelli & Hawke recommend the use of nickel or tin plated glands, but one Ex panel manufacturer recommended using brass glands with silicone grease applied to the threads???

Thanks in advance,

Alan

There's a corrosion engineering forum, maybe you'll get better answers at that place.

But you're right to worry about electro-corrosion, especially with aluminum. It depends on the environmental conditions. Dunno about Al vs brass or nickel.

My feeling about the silicone grease is that it will help the cap pressing the fins more evenly over the bushing and thus provide a better seal.

Can't use nylon glands?
