Electronic Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
in the Cad model, you can open a part and inside, the GD&T is programmed into the model.
I see it sometimes using PMI, but apparently there is something more advanced where I can highlight a surface and read its GD&T callouts directly...

I've only ever seen it called PMI or MBD, loosely. I've never heard of EGDT nor does google seem to be able to find it. I held off posting the same question @drawoh did, verbatim. 
This is all software dependent, however, and you'll get better info in the forum for your specific software. There are Solidworks, CATIA, CREO and UG/NX sections, here, for example. Among others.
There is a semi-immature ASME which hasn't been very widely adopted (IME, seems many companies are still rolling their own ideas of 'standard' when it comes to MBD/PMI) regarding this topic; ASME Y14.41

well, its something that seems to always go with drawings generated in NX.
however, today my world was turned upside down when I was informed a customer was able to open an egdt drawing with spinfire...
usually you get screen dumps of the egdt (we don't use NX) but its hard to see which surfaces they intend to call out...

...and I believe EGDT is simply NX's version of that, as I thought all along.
I think they are confused and seeing PMI & calling it EDGT, its got everybody's feathers ruffled

It's the first time I've seen that acronym also, and I am an NX MBD checker (no drawings).
While Y14.41 is slow to be adopted across the board, the limitations seem to have been both software capabilities and company culture. The software capabilities have improved dramatically, but there is still the issue of a company aligning all of it's different groups and vendors to get on board with the new methodology.
For the most part, we use 3D jt or pdf files to communicate with those who don't have access to the NX files directly.

We also use JT files for who who don't have NX. If the PMI is difficult to evaluate, then it might be best to create it based upon preset views that show it clearly, or supplying a 3D model you can orbit around. Otherwise, careful layout must be made with the preset views in mind. If it starts getting a little too messy, then having PMI objects only visible their respective views is the answer - but you have to make sure whoever is /using/ the file knows how to properly navigate it to get /all/ the information, or has documentation telling them.

I was at a presentation on SolidWorks[ ]2017. They asked if any of us were using MBD. I replied "Yes, and I hate it with a passion!" Then it turned out it was a module within their software, and not just a procedure.
