Hello,
if we have seam weld pipes API 5L, what would be the efect of the misaligned join weld on the maximum allowed stress. By misalignment, I mean that the angle of the center axis of the two pipes can be from 0.5 degree to 1.5 degrees and that the two pipes are symetrically cut and welded. We assume that the only load is the internal pressure and that the quality of the weld is good.
I guess the misalignment, as any imperfection, will reduce the maximum allowed stress. But, is there a value of misalignment below which the misaligned join behaves like a straight join?
I would much appreciate if someone could provide a formula to describe this efect.
Thank you
Costas
