In section 6.5.8.2 of ASCE 7-05 there is a beta factor which is the damping ratio. In this section they describe "betta= damping ratio, percent of critical" C6.5.8 of ASCE 7-05 states to use 1% damping ratio for steel and 2% for concrete. In ASCE guide to windloads example they have a steel building so use a betta of 1%, but they use .01 vs 1. They specifically say "betta= damping ratio, percent of critical" so when they say percent of critical you would think betta value is 1 and not .01. Any one have an answer as to what is correct for steel(1 or .01)?
