I can make parts that alter their features when I change a dimension, but that only works to a point.

I have been told it is possible to model a part/assembly so that just altering one dimension or size will dynamically scale the object so everything else changes size - in proportion. 'Scale' is not powerful enough to do this, and I've been told equations and Excel spreadsheets need to be used...

Is there an existing tutorial on this anywhere? Or can someone go through the basic process?

Are you wanting "infinitely variable" user selected sizes or would a set of pre-selected variations be OK?

Will every dimension change?

Are the dimension "scale" factors consistent?

Try using equations, and make an equation called "scale factor" and use this as, well the scale factor. Design tables may be another route to try.

Yeh infinitely variable would be nice, although obviously it would have to be set so that nothing could be allowed to overlap or change the form of the part.

I was thinking more along the lines of if one object increases/decreases in size by 100, another object has to increase/decrease in size by a percentage of 100. So if something is altered, the other objects increase or decrease by a certain, predefined amount. They need restrictions not only on how big/small they are allowed to get, but how far they can move along a certain path etc.

If you were to make it so that if you changed a single dimension, everything else changed, then every single sketch would have to have the right relations be dimensioned so that they grew or shrunk in the correct way.

I guess you just simply need to know the part inside-out and need to spend a lot of time tinkering and thinking about how to do it.
