Dynamic Analysis: Modal superpos. or Direct Int.

In the field I am in (structural) mode superposition is commonly used to perform dynamic analyzes. Is this a default analysis method also for other fields, e.g. automotive, mechanical,...?

Of course, direct integration is more accurate but is the accuracy of a modal superposition generally sufficient?

Direct Integration, Modal Superposition, Time History, etc. all have their place in the analytical world. Many times for me, it depends on what empiracle data is available as known inputs.
