Hello all,
We provided temporary shoring for an elevated concrete parking deck due to deterioration; spalling concrete and corrosion in rebars. The desk is still being used to park cars over. The replacement of the deck is being postponed year after year for now about 4 years hence, the shoring are staying. The question I have is: is there are limitations for the duration of the shoring system?
Worth to mention that the shoring is being inspected regularly.
Thanks for any input.

If it was designed for the full dead and live loads and is being inspected, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Though a letter to the owner stating that the design was intended as a temporary measure and further degradation of the parking deck may render it unsafe regardless of the condition of the shoring. That may convince them to move a little faster.

If it was designed to resist any wind or seismic loading using a reduction in loads due to a shorter MRI or some other statistical wizardry, then yes - it needs to be revisited and, if necessary, redesigned as a "permanent" structure.

EDIT: I removed my post because I read "shoring" as a support of excavation and not temporary posts.

If it’s wood shoring the allowable stress is based in part on the duration factor. If it’s steel shoring probably not a problem.

At the same time, inspect the parking deck also. If problems are developing, more times than not, advance warning signs (say, new cracks in the concrete, more spalling, additional deflection, etc.) will reveal themselves. If so, present the evidence and take action, even if you have wisely taken the steps recommended by phamENG.

I don't know what is applicable where, or enforced by whom, but as I understand it:

Temporary shoring is less than 1 year. The temporary status can be extended, if it is inspected every month, indefinitely. The inspection is to verify that the original plan of action doesn't require change. There is also permanent shoring.

Thanks all.
My apologies for not proofreading prior to posting.
The shores are aluminum and were designed for full dead and live loads only. The deck is underground bearing on foundation walls on the perimeter.
