Drop Test

I need to drop a 5 lbs steel ball onto a optical lens from 6 feet up.

Does Cosmos drop test even allow me to do this. can i fix the lens to be my surface and have the ball drop on it???

I am running SW 2009 with all the toys so any advice will be helpful.
 
Some years ago Vince Adams did a presentation at a SW regional meeting and compared what drop test could do with more sophisticated software.

1. Drop test is not particularly fast when compared to LS-Dyna.
2. It is a subset of Cosmos/M and uses the same methods.

I believe you can do this in Cosmos/M which you probably have if you have Drop Test.

If you are running SolidWorks Simulation Premium you can run a non-linear dynamic study of an assembly with the steel ball in a no-penetration contact with the lens. You can then give the steel ball a velocity as an initial condition, initial condition is found under fixtures. Make sure that you orientate the target plane and gravity correctly.
 
What target plane? Why gravity; it is negligible? The ball is positioned just above the lens with an initial velocity in a non-linear dynamic study using the explicit solution.
